The NFL has reportedly fined a football player for wearing the wrong color of shoes, leading to ridicule from many fans.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts led his team to a 27-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. punished Because he wears cleats in two different shades of green.
“We pay the fine. … You can't ban great things.”
NFL rules require players to wear cleats that match their team's colors.
The NFL is notoriously strict, leading some to nickname it the “No Fun League.”
To make matters worse, online sleuths discovered that the league had actually promoted his two-tone cleats on his social media accounts before fined Hurts. The tweet has since been deleted.
Mr. Hurts' average annual salary before bonuses is about $51 million, so the fine is equivalent to 0.01% of his salary. But he's not going to miss out on the money because the Nike shoe company has said it will pay the fine.
“I paid the fine.” said The company's Jordan brand. “Great things cannot be forbidden.”
In November, the NFL was ridiculed and mocked for fining Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes $14,069 for making a gesture that included a finger gun after scoring a touchdown. Despite violent threats with finger guns, Mahomes and the Chiefs lost that game to the Buffalo Bills, 31-20.
If Hurts were to do anything egregious enough to tarnish the league's reputation again with his offensive, chaotically colored cleats, he would be fined $16,883, according to NFL rules.
