NFL vet Billy Price, 29, announces abrupt retirement following emergency surgery

Veteran Billy Price NFL Center The 2018 first-round draft pick announced his retirement on social media this weekend after revealing he underwent emergency surgery last month to remove a blood clot.

The 29-year-old professional athlete made the announcement on his Instagram account, saying he had suffered an “unexplained pulmonary embolism” and had decided to retire due to the risk of internal bleeding.

“In an instant it can all be taken away from us,” Price wrote in the post’s caption.

“On April 24th, I underwent emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove saddle blood clots that had invaded both of my lungs. As a healthy 29-year-old, a pulmonary embolism with no known medical explanation is frightening. I am truly grateful to be alive today. Unfortunately, due to the high risk of internal bleeding while on blood thinners, I have decided to retire from the NFL.”
