Nicolas Cage Stars in New Horror Film “The Carpenter’s Son”
Nicolas Cage is set to feature in a new horror movie where he takes on the role of Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus. The film, titled “The Carpenter’s Son,” draws inspiration from the Gospel of Thomas, particularly its apocryphal content, which recounts some unusual and controversial stories about Jesus’s childhood.
These narratives include elements that many consider strange or heretical. For instance, there’s a scene depicting Jesus giving life to clay birds, along with other accounts where he causes harm to children, only to later revive them. I mean, it’s quite a twist, isn’t it?
The trailer presents Joseph, referred to as the “carpenter,” who gazes skyward in his distress, while Mary, amidst a group dressed in black, appears to be in mourning. It does evoke a sense of somberness.
As the trailer unfolds, it hints at a mysterious figure twitching and includes a dramatic close-up of what seems to be a deceased person covered by a shroud. The teaser concludes with a mention of a release slated for “Autumn 2025,” which leaves you curious about how it will all play out on screen.
According to IMDB, the storyline revolves around a family in hiding in Egypt, particularly focusing on a young boy who questions the authority of his guardian, Joseph, and discovers his own mysterious powers.
The film, written and directed by Lotfy Nathan, also stars FKA Twigs as Jesus’s mother, with Noah Jupe portraying the young Jesus, simply called “the Boy.” It seems like it will join a range of other faith-based films heading to theaters around the same time.
