Nick Offerman Critiques Trump’s 250th Anniversary Plans
Actor Nick Offerman appears to have little enthusiasm for President Donald Trump’s approach toward the upcoming 250th anniversary of America.
“Okay… that’s right, Trump. Plan the party. Not that there’s anything else happening. Gas prices are nearly at levels from *Mad Max*, but have fun picking out your balloons,” Offerman commented while hosting the *Daily Show* on Wednesday, discussing his own plans for the anniversary.
He then made a light-hearted remark regarding Trump’s signature on U.S. currency, suggesting Trump uses an autopen for all his signing tasks. “But Mr. President, how can you sign them all? For that, you’ll need an autopen,” he joked. “Okay, he can sign the money. At least it’s just a signature and not his face.”
Interestingly, it was not Trump but rather President Joe Biden who is currently in office. During his presidency, Trump was known for using an autopen frequently. So, it’s a bit puzzling why Offerman connected the autopen issue specifically to Trump.
Offerman went on to express his disbelief at a coin featuring Trump’s likeness. “Wow, that’s a coin with Donald Trump’s face on it. Here’s how to finally lose the respect of a gumball machine. I’m not sure about that coin, but I really question that pose,” he remarked humorously. “He looks like he’s trying to pick up a coin from a standing toilet.”
Additionally, Offerman critiqued Trump for showcasing his image on tickets to national parks, saying, “Oh, come on! See your face reflected in the park? I’m going there to escape from your face,” which drew laughter from the audience.
He didn’t hold back on his thoughts regarding Trump’s plan for a permanent arch in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary this July. “I wonder if he can’t just play with his model replica in his basement like a normal grandpa with dementia,” Offerman quipped. “Can we please stop this self-aggrandizing celebration as if you’re the Emperor of Rome? What’s next, gladiator fights?”
Despite his criticisms, there are festivities planned for the 250th anniversary, including a performance by UFC’s Dana White at the “Freedom 250” event near the White House on June 14th.
