Nick Reiner has reportedly “rapidly deteriorated” while incarcerated in a Los Angeles jail for several months, according to sources close to his family. A source mentioned to The Daily Mail that Nick is “no longer like Nick.”
“No one will recognize him,” they noted, adding that he is nearly bald due to having to cut his hair short to avoid lice, and he has become very thin from being on strong medication. His eyes appear sunken.
Currently, Nick resides at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, facing charges for the alleged murders of his parents, Coach Rob and Michelle Reiner, back in December. He spent five months in solitary confinement, confined to a small 7 feet by 10 feet cell in the facility’s mental health unit.
His time in jail seems to have left him mentally and physically fragile. He already had mental health issues, which surfaced when he appeared in court last year wearing a suicide vest.
“Nick has been down for years, but before going to prison, there were parts of his personality that were still recognizable. That’s not true now. He’s like a babbling child and seems completely insane,” the source remarked. “It’s unfortunate that his lawyer struggles to communicate with him.”
Nobody in the family seems hopeful; Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy, fear he might “never regain his senses” and could face serious health issues due to the stress.
The Twin Towers Correctional Facility, located in downtown Los Angeles, is noted by local law enforcement as “the world’s largest prison and the nation’s largest mental health facility.”
Former inmates have disclosed the unsettling conditions in the jail. They described the noise as overwhelming, filled with howls, profanity, and inappropriate comments, which they found distressing.
Nick, who last showed up in court in April, appeared noticeably thinner but seemed aware of the proceedings. His next court date is scheduled for September 15th.
