Nicole Wallace Discusses Press Conferences During Trump’s Administration
On Monday, Nicole Wallace, the host of MS NOW, revealed that Sarah Huckabee Sanders, during her tenure as President Trump’s press secretary, opted not to air press conferences. Wallace mentioned that this decision came because Sanders felt “hurt.”
While discussing this on Jim Acosta’s podcast, “The Best People,” Wallace referenced Trump’s negative attitude towards the press, notably his assertion that the media is “the enemy of the people.” Reflecting on the strained relationship, she recalled Trump’s words to Leslie Stahl, where he expressed his disdain for negative press coverage.
Wallace explained, “I stopped airing Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ briefings because, honestly, it was painful to witness her lying.” She acknowledged that many of these so-called “lies” were politically advantageous for Trump but clarified that news coverage isn’t entirely about spinning the narrative positively.
In an earlier episode of her show, Wallace reacted strongly to Sanders’ comment about freedom of speech, stating that she wouldn’t air Sanders’ clips any longer, as they felt dishonest and “despicable.” This outburst, marked by her visible frustration, indicated the impact of the administration’s approach on her journalistic integrity.
Wallace has been a prominent voice against Trump. Notably, in 2018, she expressed incredulity at the situation during a confrontation at a press conference, questioning how reporters maintained their composure amidst such hostility.
Sanders now serves as the governor of Arkansas, but during her time as press secretary, she was the longest-serving individual in that role under Trump. Wallace launched her show, now known as MS NOW, the same year Sanders took office as press secretary.
As of now, MS NOW has not provided any comment on the discussions raised.
