Investor Changes View on Trump After Media Bias

Tech investor and influencer Chamath Palihapitiya has revised his previous negative perception of President Donald Trump. In a discussion with CNBC News, he highlighted the importance of stepping away from the narrow viewpoints often shaped by media bias.

“Why did the others fabricate their narratives to effectively damage his reputation?” Palihapitiya asked. He noted that many people get stuck in a cycle of simplistic thinking that leads them to predictable conclusions. “It’s like a little cul-de-sac they’ve made for themselves,” he remarked.

He candidly stated, “The fact is that most of us were misled about President Trump. If you go back and examine the original content, you’ll find two key points: first, he didn’t say a lot of what everyone claims he did.”

“And secondly, it’s unacceptable that some people chose to make false statements about him just to tarnish his character,” he continued. He added that there have been no significant consequences for such actions in America so far.

Palihapitiya took a deep dive into the coverage surrounding the 2017 Charlottesville rally, explaining how the media inaccurately associated Trump with racism. He discussed these findings on his widely-listened podcast.

“The first person to reach out to me was President Trump,” he shared. “After speaking with him, I told my wife, ‘I was completely wrong. I had been deceived.’”

He then expressed excitement about getting to know Trump better, declaring, “He’s a great guy!”

Palihapitiya pointed out that Trump’s statements regarding the Charlottesville rally were often misquoted or misunderstood, including accusations from figures like former President Joe Biden, who criticized him for referring to white supremacists as “very fine people.”

Interestingly, even a left-leaning fact-checking site confirmed that Trump did not include “neo-Nazis and white supremacists” in the context of praise.

The comments made by Palihapitiya were widely circulated on social media, sparking various reactions across the platform.
