During a segment on “Gutfeld!” Tuesday, the host criticized MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, asserting that no Democratic figure has equated President Donald Trump with Adolf Hitler. The discussion opened with a clip from Pritzker’s appearance on Wallace’s podcast, “The Best People,” where they both stated that Democrats don’t compare Trump to Hitler, suggesting that such claims come from Republicans as smear tactics.
Gutfeld expressed his disbelief, wishing for a resource like the Internet to verify their statements, before showcasing a clip that featured Democrats likening Trump to Hitler. This included a statement from Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett calling Trump a “Hitler wannabe” during a segment from July 19.
Moreover, Gutfeld jested about Wallace’s team, suggesting they should keep up with reality, which he implied could be found with a quick search online. In the interview, Pritzker emphasized that there is a distinction between drawing policy parallels and outright comparing Trump to Hitler. “I’m not suggesting that Donald Trump is Hitler,” he insisted.
Wallace added her perspective, saying she believes that framing such comparisons is merely a tactic used by Trump supporters against Democrats. She cited Republican J.D. Vance, who has called Trump both “cultural heroin” and “America’s Hitler.” According to her, the notion that Trump is a fascist originated from critics who once served under him.
However, records indicate that various prominent Democrats, including Wallace, have made connections between Trump and Hitler in the past. For instance, following Trump’s proclamation regarding “nationalism” at a rally in 2018, Wallace noted, “I watch enough History Channel to know that they were rooting for Hitler, too.”
Fox News’ Kat Timp chimed in to challenge Pritzker’s claims, stating that he could not even imply that Trump was Hitler while nonetheless referencing Trump’s immigration policies as precursors to the Holocaust. She raised the questions of what exactly he was implying in those statements.
Pritzker, critical of the Trump administration, has been vocal about ICE’s conduct, referencing instances against the agency that he attributes to misconduct reminiscent of methods used in Nazi Germany, further criticizing ICE agents as “thugs” serving Secretary Kristi Noem.
