Nicolle Wallace Expresses Joy Over Protest Signs Supporting Illegal Immigrants That Made Her ‘Democracy-Worried Heart Sing’

Nicolle Wallace Discusses Democracy and Deportation on New Podcast

Nicolle Wallace of MSNBC shared her thoughts on democracy and due process during a podcast episode on Monday. She remarked that she finds her spirits lifted when witnessing protests advocating for these values.

Wallace recently launched “Nicolle Wallace’s Best People,” a podcast that expands on her existing political show. In conversation with fellow MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, she expressed her concerns about the Trump administration’s efforts to deport undocumented immigrants, emphasizing that the focus seems misaligned when it comes to addressing illegal criminal immigration.

“Essentially, what they’re doing is moving people,” Wallace said. “If we pause to think about this, most of those being deported are deemed criminals. According to data from The New York Times/Siena, around 87% fall into this category, which is similar to what Obama implemented.”

She went on to question the motivations behind such deportations, suggesting that many immigrants face accusations of crimes that are not substantiated. “It feels surreal,” she continued. “It doesn’t come off as a partisan issue to say that due process is still a fundamental principle.”

As President Trump campaigned on deporting millions of undocumented immigrants, the Democratic Party faced challenges under the current Biden-Harris administration. This pushed party members to oppose the deportation of individuals like Kilmer Armande Abrero Garcia, who was deported under the previous administration.

Democratic strategists, including a Fox News co-host, criticized the Trump administration for lacking a clear process while echoing similar sentiments held by their party.

Wallace felt encouraged by the protests she witnessed and appreciated the messages advocating for due process. “I found myself moved by the energy at these events, with people holding signs that really embody the spirit of democracy,” she noted.

However, she expressed uncertainty about the broader implications of mass movements of humans. “I’m not convinced we should be relocating people everywhere,” she added. “It feels like our political discussions have often focused on nothing but returning individuals who have been labeled as criminals.”

Alongside her criticism of the Trump administration, prominent Democrats like Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen have made trips to El Salvador to engage with undocumented immigrants. Despite the Department of Homeland Security highlighting Abrego Garcia’s past connections to the MS-13 gang, Democrats continue to support him.

In another development, New Jersey Representative Ramonica McQuiver, along with other Democratic representatives and a mayor, faced federal charges related to assaults on law enforcement during immigration-related protests.
