Nintendo of America shares teaser trailer confirming the remake of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for 2026

Nintendo Switch 2 Now Available in Stores

Nintendo has launched its first new console in eight years, the Switch 2. Before its official release, there have been glimpses of upcoming games being developed for it, generating quite a buzz in the gaming community.

When we think about the greatest video games ever, it’s hard to overlook The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. This title was a game-changer, marking the Zelda series’ move into 3D. It introduced unique gameplay mechanics and a captivating narrative. Surprisingly, it still holds the title as the highest-rated video game on Metacritic, with an impressive score of 99/100.

However, it’s worth noting that many generations of gamers have yet to experience Ocarina of Time firsthand. A remake was released for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2011, but for many, that feels like ages ago, especially since it was limited to handheld devices.

Recently, fans have been expressing a desire for an HD remake of this classic title on a next-generation console. Rumors began swirling earlier this year, suggesting that their wishes might soon come true.

Nintendo of America confirmed these whispers with a teaser trailer shared on its official X account, hinting at a release date later this year.

Now, let’s dive into what Nintendo has in store.

It’s been indicated that something will come in 2026, though no specific month or day has been set. It might as well be December 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM—that’s the kind of uncertainty we often see in the gaming industry. Given the absence of gameplay footage in the trailer, that doesn’t exactly provide confidence in a swift release.

Additionally, the art style showcased appears somewhat surreal, especially when compared to more recent titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which may not sit well with every longtime fan.

The public’s reaction to the trailer has been mixed. While some players view the lack of gameplay as a red flag, many others are just thrilled that a long-held dream could finally materialize. Personally, Ocarina of Time is my all-time favorite, so I find this particularly exciting.

Admittedly, I felt a twinge of disappointment seeing no gameplay footage, yet I remain hopeful about this anticipated remake. It’s just that after years of disappointing reboots, I can’t help but proceed with caution.

That said, I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic and a bit giddy when I stumbled upon this news this morning. For Zelda fans, it seems we’re on the verge of something big—let’s just hope it happens soon.
