Dangerous Stunt on Frozen Lake Causes Local Outrage
A dwarf’s decision to perform donuts on a frozen lake at the Jersey Shore has sparked ire among local officials. They claim his antics not only prompted a needless rescue operation but also put first responders at risk when his pickup truck drove onto the ice.
“This is the height of stupidity,” remarked Mayor Michael Pasternak of Eagleswood Township during an interview with NBC Philadelphia.
In a video that has circulated online, the truck can be seen rolling multiple times on the icy surface of the lake on January 31, with its rear end eventually slipping into the water.
The driver, age 44, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed, left the truck behind after it sank in the Stafford Forge Wildlife Management Area, located roughly 30 miles south of Atlantic City. Interestingly, he reportedly didn’t have a valid license and chose not to report the late-night incident.
Even though no individuals were inside the submerged vehicle, emergency crews were dispatched the following morning, including three volunteer fire departments and two water rescue teams, in a search for potential victims.
“They have to respond as if there could be someone in danger,” Pasternak noted, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
Captain Frank Lanza Jr. of the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Department expressed similar concerns, stating, “It’s not just your life at stake. Reckless actions like this endanger others as well.” His comments reflect a common viewpoint among responders dealing with such reckless behavior.
The driver has been cited for a range of motor vehicle violations, including reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
As of February 5, it remains uncertain whether plans are in place to retrieve the truck from the lake. The New Jersey State Police have yet to provide additional details, including information on the driver.
