No. 20 Colorado stays alive for College Football Playoff as Heisman hopeful Travis Hunter continues dominance

Colorado could be a playoff team after all.

The 20th-ranked Buffaloes improved their chances of making the College Football Playoff with a 41-27 win over Texas Tech in Lubbock on Saturday.

Texas Tech jumped out to a 13-0 lead, but the Buffaloes came back.

Shedur Sanders found Rajontay Wester for a 23-yard touchdown, and the Buffs kicked a field goal just before halftime to make it a three-point game.

After halftime, Sanders scored quickly and Colorado took the lead. However, the Red Raiders fought back with a touchdown and regained the lead. However, Colorado's offense was hot and Sanders threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Will Shepard, giving the Buffs a 24-20 lead.

Colorado forced a three-and-out on their next defense, or so they thought.

Texas Tech faked a punt, but the pass fell incomplete, giving Colorado great field position. And the Buffaloes took advantage of that. This time, the dynamic duo of Sanders and Travis Hunter scored a 24-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 31-20.

Texas Tech, down 14 points, scored a touchdown with just over two minutes left, forcing a three-and-out. With 63 seconds left, the Red Raiders began a potential game-tying drive from their own 6 with no timeouts, but Behren Morton lost a fumble that was picked up by Shiloh Sanders, who took a touch. I scored a knockdown and everything else was frozen.

Hours after head coach Deion Sanders gave Hunter his “vote” for the Heisman Trophy, the two-way superstar showed why Coach Prime feels that way. He had nine catches for 99 yards and a score. Meanwhile, Shedur was 30-for-43 for 291 yards and three touchdowns.

Colorado's defense was solid, with 10 tackles for loss and six sacks. It was Colorado State's fourth road win of the season and the most since 2002.

The Buffaloes won just four games last season, going 7-2. The final three games are at home against Utah State, Kansas State and at home against Oklahoma State. These three teams are a combined 10-16 this season and 3-14 against Big 12 opponents.

That means the Buffaloes are 10-2 and on track to make it to the Big 12 title game. They are in control of their own destiny, sitting in second place in the conference behind BYU.

A win in the title game would secure a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff, and just playing in the championship game could earn them a major bid.
