No world leader should compare Trump to the American public.

On Tuesday, former national security adviser John Bolton expressed on CNN’s “New Central” that world leaders shouldn’t conflate the sentiments of the American public with those of President Donald Trump.

Bolton remarked, “I think Trump is undermining years of U.S. efforts to foster integrity and trust during crises. The economic fallout from tariffs will be significant.”

He added, “At today’s meeting, it seemed that Trump was the one backing away. He had already made some odd remarks about Canada becoming the 51st state. No one seemed willing to set him straight on that.”

“He felt compelled to reiterate those points. Kearney remained composed, presenting his arguments effectively. Trump never brought them up initially. Clearly, this has implications for negotiations with Canada. Kearney mentioned that, sadly, our previous relationship has deteriorated, leading to a loss of trust and goodwill.”
