North Korea Constructed Hidden Missile Site Near Chinese Border That Can Target the US

North Korea’s Secret Missile Base Near China

North Korea has established a covert missile base merely miles from its border with China. This base is reportedly capable of housing missiles that might threaten the US mainland, as highlighted in a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

This undisclosed facility is situated about 17 miles from the China-North Korea border and could accommodate several intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching the US and beyond. CSIS’s analysis, which relies on publicly available data, indicates that North Korea operates between 15 and 20 such bases as part of its nuclear strategy, persistently warning the West and its allies about potential strikes if it perceives threats to its security.

According to the report, “The current assessment is that during times of crisis and war, these launchers and missiles will leave the base, fill special warhead storage/transport units, and carry out launch operations from dispersed, pre-served sites.”

The construction of this base reportedly began around 2004, and it became operational in 2014. In case of an attack, it is equipped to move its missiles and launch vehicles to predetermined sites.

North Korea’s ICBMs are said to have a range of up to 15,000 kilometers. Estimates suggest that the country possesses around 50 nuclear weapons, along with fissile material that could produce an additional 70 to 90. North Korea actively tests ballistic missiles, focusing particularly on South Korea, an adversary it has been at odds with for nearly eight decades.

Historically, China and North Korea have maintained a mutual defense treaty since the end of the Korean War in 1953. However, China’s support for North Korea’s nuclear ambitions appears limited, especially as it has backed United Nations sanctions aimed at curbing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
