Tom Holland Talks About Erling Haaland Ignoring His Invite

Tom Holland shared that Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland overlooked his invitation to hang out. During his guest spot on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday night, Holland mentioned he had slid into Haaland’s DMs but learned that the athlete didn’t recognize him at all and thought he was just a “random guy.”

“Yes, I DM’d him, and let me tell you, it’s one of those humbling experiences that actors really need,” Holland quipped, confirming the interaction.

Holland referenced a viral tweet that claimed Haaland passed on the invitation because he genuinely didn’t know who the actor was. “I thought, ‘I’ll text him. Let’s grab dinner,'” Holland joked, lamenting the lack of response. “It’s not like Haaland said, ‘I’m busy playing soccer tonight.’ Nothing.”

The 29-year-old actor got the idea to reach out after encountering Haaland at last month’s F1 Monaco Grand Prix, where they were in adjacent hospitality suites. “I thought, why not? I’ll take my shot,” Holland said, noting he never expected to discuss it on air.

Despite the snub, Holland had high praise for Haaland, calling him “incredible” and an “absolute legend.” When asked if he’d be open to a dinner with Haaland in the future, Holland humorously remarked, “I don’t think he’ll want dinner with me again after what happened recently,” referencing Norway’s loss to England in the World Cup.

Even amidst the teasing, Holland reiterated his admiration for Haaland. The soccer player has lit up the 2026 World Cup with his standout performance.
