Over the past few days, a spate of California wildfires has ripped through various parts of the Los Angeles area, leaving behind a trail of complete destruction.
Houses, churches, schools, and monuments were burned. According to recent reports, nearly 180,000 residents have been forced to evacuate their homes. Ten people have been confirmed dead, and the death toll is expected to rise further.
Already under fire are Fire Chief Christine Crowley, who has made DEI efforts a top priority, Mayor Karen Bass (D), who has cut funding for fire departments, and California Governor Gavin Newsom. (Democratic Party) and others have leveled accusations of gross incompetence against California officials. ), criticized President Trump for not signing a bill to increase California's water supply.
Understandably, many people are asking, “Could this tragedy have been prevented?”
meanwhile glenn beck I certainly don't mean to overly politicize disasters, but when it comes to wildfires, we've long seen the writing on the wall: bad choices by California officials and voters are making this disaster worse.
While the wildfires themselves may not have been completely preventable, the extent of the destruction in California probably could have been prevented if the state had made smarter choices in forest management, resource allocation, and voting. It will be.” [have been] It’s been alleviated,” Glenn says.
“California has literally been playing with fire for a long time,” he explains. “Their forests are full of undergrowth, dead trees, and dry vegetation that fuel the flames.”
Glenn compares California to other countries and states like Sweden, Finland, Austria and even Florida. These countries and states are taking the necessary precautions to prevent catastrophic conflagrations, even though their geography places them at high risk for wildfires.
Why doesn't California have similar protections?
“The answer lies in bureaucracy and priorities: environmental regulation and litigation that impedes or slows forest management of all kinds,” Glenn says. “Ideology is standing in the way of practical, life-saving solutions, and this must change.”
Water (or lack of water) is another major issue contributing to Los Angeles' crisis
“Firefighters don't have water coming from the hydrants,” Glenn said, adding that California hasn't built a new reservoir since 1979, so California's water storage capacity is “exactly the same as it was almost half a century ago.” he pointed out. Even though the population is increasing dramatically.
In addition, “billions of gallons of rainwater flow directly into the ocean every year. [California hasn’t] We built infrastructure to capture and store rainwater. ”
Imagine how different the current wildfire catastrophe would be if LA had “reservoirs, aqueducts, and desalination plants to store and supply water,” he said. Glenn says. “California has ignored water infrastructure for decades, prioritizing projects that have no meaningful impact on people's lives. This is not just a failure of government; it is a failure of vision.”
