A “mass shooting” occurred near Exit 49 on Interstate 75 just north of London, Kentucky, leaving “multiple” people shot, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Saturday evening.
The sheriff's office said the highway was closed near an exit nine miles north of London.
Police are still searching for the suspect, according to Reuters.
Located about 80 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky, London has a population of 7,600.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear urged residents to avoid the area.
“We are aware of a shooting that occurred on Interstate 75 in Laurel County, Kentucky,” Gov. Beshear said. “Police have closed down both directions at exit 49 for Interstate 49. Please do not approach the area. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”
London Mayor Randall Weddle also urged people to avoid the area on his Facebook page.
Karen Kelly, chief of staff to Rep. Hal Rogers, also tweeted, “We are hearing reports of an active shooter on I-75 between exits 49 and 41. Interstate closed. Shooter is in the woods. Let's pray.”
