Former Nurse Sentenced for Child Sex Crimes
A former nurse from Florida discovered her fate after entering a “no conflict” plea concerning charges of engaging in sexual acts with minors. Alexis Von Yates, who is 35, faced accusations of inappropriate interactions with children.
Originally, she was charged with sexual assault involving a person aged 12 to 18, which is classified as a first-degree felony, carrying the possibility of a life sentence and hefty fines. However, she opted for a plea agreement last month, resulting in reduced charges for indecent battery against minors aged 12 to 16.
On Tuesday, Von Yates was sentenced to two years in state prison. This will be followed by two years of supervised release and ten years of sex offender probation. Additionally, she is required to complete 200 hours of community service and cover various fines and fees. The judge has barred her from contacting the victim.
Judge Timothy McCourt noted that both the victim and his mother supported the sentence. Yet, the boy’s mother strongly criticized Von Yates, labeling her a “pedophile” who groomed her son.
During the sentencing hearing, she claimed Von Yates had shown no remorse for what she described as “despicable behavior.” Reportedly, Von Yates was involved in the incident on July 26, 2024.
In the court documents, it was stated that the boy’s father was working late at the time. He returned home to find the child was left with his stepmother, who later admitted to feeling “horny.” The two reportedly engaged in several illicit acts after spending time together in the living room and watching a movie.
Eventually, when the father realized what was happening, he confronted Von Yates, accusing her of being a “child predator” before sending the boy to stay with his grandparents. Following her arrest on November 6, 2024, the Florida Department of Health suspended her nursing license.
