New York State Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has become the latest lawmaker to voice support for a possible ban on TikTok.
“As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I am deeply concerned about the national security concerns posed by TikTok, whose parent company ByteDance is under the influence of the Chinese Communist Party,” Gillibrand told the Post. . He was “strongly” in favor of a House bill that would force ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban from operating in the United States.
“I am heartened that the House passed this bill with overwhelming bipartisan support, and I hope it passes in the Senate,” she said, adding that the app “represents the Chinese Communist Party’s influence on the American people.” “This raises serious concerns about its ability to divide.” ”
Sens. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) also strongly support the bill.
Gillibrand is the latest in a bipartisan chorus of senators calling for a vote on the bill.
The decision to take up the bill rests with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), but Schumer has been cautious about his plans for the bill.
The White House earlier this week urged Congress to take “swift action” on the bill that President Biden has promised to sign.

Schumer has expressed support for measures like the House bill in the past.
“A U.S. company should buy TikTok so everyone can keep using it and our data stays safe,” he wrote. X posts in 2020. “This is about privacy. TikTok in China is subject to Chinese Communist Party law and could be required to hand over data to the government. TikTok must find a safe way to continue.” not.”
