Holden praised President-elect Donald Trump's next border czar, Tom Homan, for vowing to hold local leaders accountable for blocking ICE efforts with sanctuary policies.

On Wednesday, Holden called on Adams to keep his promise to help deport Trump.

“Hard arguments are good, but actions speak louder,” Holden said. “The Mayor had the opportunity to amend or repeal the Sanctuary City Act through the Charter Revision Commission and chose not to do so. Now is the time to right these wrongs.”

“To demonstrate a true commitment to public safety, Mayor Adams should reopen the Rikers Island ICE office and direct the NYPD to: [Department of Corrections], [Department of Probation] “The ability to communicate with ICE and respect criminal immigration detainees,” he said.

A spokesperson for Mr. Adams responded to Mr. Holden's comments and advised him to redirect his efforts toward persuading city council members to repeal the sanctuary policy.

“Mayor Adams has repeatedly stated that while we continue to respect the city's sanctuary laws, we need to have a serious conversation with the small number of people who repeatedly commit violent crimes in our city and the consequences they should face,” the spokesperson said. Ta. . “We also have to fix this country's failed border policies that got us to this place.”
