NYC man fed up with porch pirates lures thief with fake parcels

Security camera footage shows the moment a suspected porch pirate walked into a Queens homeowner’s trap after intentionally trying to steal a fake package left on his stoop.

Carlos Mejia said he was “done” with robbers ransacking his belongings, and last week he left a “decoy package” outside his front door in hopes of catching one of the robbers in the act. He said he decided to take matters into his own hands.

“I just wanted to set an example for others who are doing the same thing…stealing from others,” Mejia said. Told the story full.

Video from Mejia’s home security system shows a man enter her yard Saturday, approach her front steps, grab a box and try to stuff it into her backpack.

At that moment, a visibly angry Mejia ran out of the house brandishing a baseball bat.

“Oh, there, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, I didn’t want anyone to take me, brother!” the frightened suspect screams.

“What did you get in there?” Mejia asks, and the suspected thief brazenly claims the items in the bag are his.

“You can have anything you want, brother,” the man shouted as he was threatened with a baseball bat.

Police were alerted and the suspected porch pirate, 30-year-old Victor Stazzone, was arrested. He is charged with petty theft, possession of stolen property and trespassing.
