Marin Critiques New York Mayor’s Sanctuary City Policy
Markwayne Marin, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has responded forcefully to criticism from New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani regarding ICE raids. Marin labeled Mamdani a “socialist communist” without any respect and asserted that DHS would “restore law” across American cities. He emphasized that the department intends to pursue criminals in all locations, including New York, despite local authorities’ reluctance to work with federal agents.
Meanwhile, Mayor Mamdani has been backing Dalia Lisa Avila Chevalier, his fellow Democratic Socialist candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives. This comes at a time when troubling social media posts from Avila Chevalier’s past have resurfaced. The 32-year-old community organizer, known for her anti-Israel activism at Columbia University, made statements between 2018 and 2022 that denounced the U.S., the Democratic Party, police, and private property. She has actively campaigned against the five-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th Congressional District, which covers parts of Upper Manhattan and the West Bronx.
In a 2021 post, Avila Chevalier claimed that abolishing borders, prisons, and police was not only “possible” but also “necessary.” She also stated that deportation is inherently wrong, advocating for the complete dismantling of borders. Notably, she has openly criticized former President Biden, calling him both a “rapist” and a “war criminal,” and has been skeptical of other prominent Democrats.
A few comments from Mamdani, regarding his support for Avila Chevalier, showcased his perspective on her campaign. He stated that although he has not encountered any concerning tweets, he believes her views are evolving. “What I see is her dedication,” he remarked, indicating confidence in her capacity to represent the district and the city effectively, especially amidst widespread fears of eviction and displacement.
Mamdani first threw his support behind Avila Chevalier in late May, highlighting her commitment to the marginalized groups in society. With primary elections approaching on June 23rd, the focus on their progressive agendas continues to grow, even as public sentiments waver.
As the political landscape heats up, Fox News Digital has reached out to Mamdani, Avila Chevalier, and Espaillat’s offices for comments; however, no responses have been received as of yet.
