A new study of the world’s 10 most visited cities finds that tourists pay more to visit New York City than any other popular tourist destination.
A study by Rustic Pathways, a student travel company, recently revealed that the average cost of a night’s stay in Gotham has soared to $687 per person.
That’s several hundred dollars more expensive than cities like Paris and Rome, which travelers have long perceived as very expensive.

1. Berlin $266 per night
For one night in New York, you could potentially spend almost three nights in the German capital. However, be careful about food costs. Food costs in this city are $56, the most expensive of the 10 cities.
2. Madrid $298 one night
In Spain’s largest city, a hotel stay costs just $167 and a meal costs $37, so it won’t hurt your wallet too much.
3. Tokyo $338 one night
Long memories may have it hard to believe, but these days one of the most expensive places in the world is a relative bargain.

5. Amsterdam $374 per night
The list gets more expensive when you reach the halfway point. Rooms in the Dutch capital cost an average of $221 per night.
6. Rome $383 per night
The Eternal City’s reputation as an expensive stop for travelers is well-founded, but its high prices, including hotels, are balanced out by affordability in other areas.
7. London $461 per night
Cheap thrills are hard to find in the Big Smoke, but they are possible. The city may rank much lower than some people expected.
8. Dubai $465 per night
The Las Vegas of the Middle East can burn a hole in a visitor’s pocket without gambling at every turn.
“If you’re looking for a holiday with plenty of sightseeing, Dubai is a good option. Many of the country’s most popular attractions, including Dubai Fountains and Marina Beach, offer free entry,” says Fitz Coy. he said.

Not the most surprising result on the list, but the French capital ranks near the top. The average visitor spends about $84 per day on entertainment alone.
10. New York $687 per night
