NYPD classes canned over migrant crisis budget cuts to be reinstated — adding 1.6K cops by next fall

Mayor Eric Adams plans to reinstate two new NYPD classes eliminated by painful budget cuts to cover the immigration crisis, adding 1,600 officers by next fall, The Post reports. Reported.

A long-awaited infusion of new officers into the nation's largest police force will restore the NYPD's budget by more than $100 million and add officers to an already shortfall, City Hall sources say.

Mr. Adams eliminated classes last year amid a wave of mid-year budget cuts across the city to offset the huge costs of New York City's influx of hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers.

NYPD classes are scheduled to resume in January and April 2025, officials said.

Officials say the class of officers is expected to be on the streets by October next year.
