The city of Oakland, Calif., can add a restaurant to the growing list of businesses changing the way they do business as crime rises in the city.
Some Taco Bell restaurants are now closing their dining rooms and offering only drive-thru service, according to reports.
Local CBS stations in the Bay Area reported that at least four Taco Bells have closed the doors to their indoor dining rooms, including one on Hegenberger Road and 35th Street in Oakland.
The dine-in portion of the fast food restaurant will be closed, but drive-thru service will continue to be available for those who want bean burritos, Breakfast Crunchwraps, Gordita Crunch and other menu items.

The store at 35th Street and MacArthur has been robbed at least four times since November, the department said, with the most recent one occurring three weeks ago. During the robbery, the thieves crashed through a window in a pickup truck and connected a cable to a safe before driving away.
Two of the robberies at the store reportedly occurred during business hours.
Diversified Restaurant Group, which owns all four Taco Bell locations in Oakland, has suspended indoor dining.

Taco Bell has confirmed that changes are being made at its Oakland stores.
“Providing a safe environment for our Team Members and customers is our top priority at Taco Bell restaurants,” Taco Bell said in a statement. “Franchise owners and operators consistently evaluate and work to ensure a safe environment by implementing steps such as closing dining rooms and hiring security personnel, and we are responding to local law enforcement.” They have informed us that they are taking additional steps to do so.”
There is still another Taco Bell on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, where people can come in and enjoy a meal, but it has reportedly suspended cash transactions to prevent robberies.
Oakland, California’s only In-Out restaurant closes due to crime

The change comes after other restaurants in Oakland announced they were closing due to rampant violent crime and theft.
In-N-Out announced in January that it would close its Oakland location in March, marking the first time in the chain’s 75-year history that one of its restaurants had to close.
Denny’s also closed one of its stores in Oakland for the first time in 54 years, citing high crime in the city.

The restaurant, also located on Hegenberger Strasse, said in its announcement in January that the safety and health of its team members and guests was its top priority. Denny’s added that after considering these factors, it has decided to close the store.
Local leaders and civil rights activists blame city policies for recent restaurant and store closures.
