US Forces Tribute to Fallen Polish F-16 Pilot
In remembrance of the Polish F-16 pilot who tragically lost his life recently, US military forces performed a “missing man” formation over the White House on Wednesday. This coincided with President Donald Trump’s welcome of Polish President Karol Naulocky, who was there to honor Major Maciej “Slab” Kurakouan.
Four F-35 jets flew over the South Lawn, followed by four F-16s in a ceremonial formation, marking the occasion. The aerial tribute took place on August 28, as part of the commemoration for the fallen pilot. A report from the scene indicates that this event aimed to express military solidarity among NATO allies.
As the two leaders positioned themselves on the South Lawn, Trump greeted Naulocky with a friendly tap on the shoulder, looking up at the aircraft flying overhead. The flyover transformed what could have been an ordinary state visit into a symbolic act of unity and respect.
Major Kurakouan, aged 35, headed the Polish F-16 Tiger demonstration team and had been conducting training exercises ahead of the Radom Air Show when the accident occurred. Reports from TVP World noted that he left behind a wife and two young sons.
On the day of the crash, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz visited the site and shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing condolences to the pilot’s family and emphasizing the significant loss to the Polish military. “He is an officer who always served with devotion and courage to his homeland,” he remarked.
As the meeting progressed, Naulocky and Trump discussed ways to strengthen ties between Poland and the US, especially regarding military presence. Trump indicated a willingness to consider deploying more troops in Poland if needed, stating, “If they want, we’ll put more there.”
