ICE Officer Praised for Life-Saving Actions in Missouri Crash

Officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Missouri received commendations from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for providing crucial medical assistance to a driver injured in a serious accident, as announced on Tuesday.

DHS highlighted ICE officer Kirtland Sawyer’s efforts in saving the life of a motorist who witnessed the crash while heading home.

According to the DHS, Sawyer, who is based at ICE’s St. Louis field office, was driving home on July 11 when he observed a vehicle collide with a tractor-trailer near Festus, Missouri.

Without hesitation, Sawyer rushed to the scene and administered life-saving care, including applying a tourniquet to the driver’s arm to control severe bleeding. He stayed with the injured person until emergency medical technicians arrived to provide further treatment.

“ICE Law Enforcement Officer Kirtland Sawyer immediately provided life-saving treatment to a driver involved in a serious collision with a tractor-trailer in Missouri. Officer Sawyer is a hero,” said Lauren Biss, the DHS Assistant Secretary.

Biss emphasized, “Our officers are the best of the best. When they see someone in need, they act swiftly to help.” She encouraged the public to show appreciation for ICE officers when they see them.

This incident is just one of several recent rescues promoted by DHS. Notably, ICE agents recently saved a six-year-old child by jumping into a pool in Florida and performing CPR.

In a separate event last month, ICE officers in Milwaukee came to the aid of a woman trapped in a vehicle that had overturned after a driver allegedly ran a red light.
