Ohio Man Arrested After Mistakenly Depositing Meth at Bank

An Ohio man was taken into custody last week following an unusual incident at a bank drive-thru where he allegedly sent a “bag” of crystal meth through the pneumatic tube system.

Jason G. Smith, 46, was arrested on December 3 after bank staff reported an unexpected “deposit” he made at a bank in Woodsfield. According to a statement from local authorities, a quick investigation ensued.

The sheriff’s office indicated that Smith “unknowingly” placed a bag containing a substance resembling methamphetamine into the air tube during what seemed to be a routine banking transaction. After making the deposit, he drove off, apparently oblivious to the chaos he had just caused.

Bank employees alerted law enforcement about the bizarre transaction, leading to an investigation by officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. They managed to track Smith down to Wayne Township, which is roughly 320 miles away from the incident.

A K9 officer named Max was then used to inspect Smith’s truck, resulting in the discovery of “suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia,” as reported by the sheriff’s office.

Monroe County Sheriff Derek Norman made a remark on Facebook about the situation, emphasizing that while illegal substances shouldn’t make their way into a bank drive-thru, it was ultimately better to remove them from the streets than to let them go unnoticed.

Smith has been booked into the Monroe County Jail, though specific charges are still pending. Meanwhile, reactions online varied. Some users expressed disbelief at his actions.

“I can only imagine the chaos when he couldn’t find his drugs after making that deposit,” one commenter mused. Another joked, “I didn’t know you could be that oblivious to do drugs!”

“This really shows the mindset of a drug addict,” another user remarked.
