Ohio man reportedly breaks free from handcuffs and attacks two deputies at the courthouse

In a dramatic scene caught on video, a 20-year-old man from Ohio, Timothy J. Reaggle, was seen apparently slipping out of his handcuffs, striking a bailiff, and making a hasty attempt to escape from the courthouse after his sentencing. This incident reportedly occurred shortly after Reaggle learned he would be sentenced to a year in prison for a separate case.

According to local authorities, Reaggle attacked two deputies from the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Brian McLaughlin revealed that both deputies sustained broken bones but they have since been discharged from the hospital.

Footage released by the sheriff’s department depicts a deputy guiding Reaggle through a hallway following his sentencing. Suddenly, he breaks free from his handcuffs, punches the deputy, and bolts away.

As he fled, Reaggle collided with another deputy, knocking him over. He then made a dash for the courthouse exit, where he was seen sliding down the steps in a bid for freedom. Deputies eventually subdued him with a Taser as he tried to reach the front doors.

The video also captures bystanders rushing to help the injured deputies. One of them was seen lying on the ground with injuries to his head and applying a paper towel to stop the bleeding.

Reaggle had just been sentenced for charges related to an incident dating back to February 14, 2025. He pleaded guilty to various serious charges, including aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.

Following his attempted escape, Reaggle remains in custody at the Columbiana County Jail as he awaits transport to state prison. Additionally, he could face new charges related to the courthouse incident, which could include assaulting an officer or felony escape, according to Sheriff McLaughlin.
