Social media star and Ohio State loser Caden Davis has been waived by the Buckeyes, reports say. Report from the university newspaper “The Lantern”.
Davis, a defensive lineman who posted behind-the-scenes videos of his time as an Ohio State football player and amassed hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok, X and Instagram, never snapped for the school.
The sophomore confirmed the news on Instagram and thanked Buckeye Nation.
“Becoming a horse chestnut has been a dream come true for me since I was a kid. I'm so grateful to the coaches, staff and players for welcoming me to the team,” Davis wrote.
“I cannot thank them enough for allowing me to live my dream and coaching me over the past two years. Due to NCAA changes and personal career reasons, I I will not be a PWO at OSU. Thank you for your support and for respecting my privacy regarding the decisions made.”
The school did not disclose the reason for Davis' expulsion.
Davis' status on the team was called into question last week when he posted a video that appeared to show Ohio State traveling to AT&T Stadium for the Cotton Bowl game against Texas.
This footage appears to be from a Buckeyes Cotton Bowl game in late 2023, rather than the game on January 10 of this year.
OSU offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick slammed Davis in one since-deleted post, writing, “You don't play here.”
The Buckeyes will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the national championship game on Monday, Jan. 20, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, seeking their first title since 2014.
