After winning college football's national title on Monday, several members of the victorious Ohio State Buckeyes publicly praised God.
'Buckeyes' stars Will Howard, Jack Sawyer and Cody Simon gave After defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the title game, they gave praise and thanks to God, FOX News reported.
The players made a big contribution to Sunday's game. Howard threw two touchdown passes and one clutch throw, and Sawyer recorded three tackles.
After his big win, Howard turned his attention to God and said: “First and foremost, I must give glory and praise to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, without whom I would not be here.” Howard also expressed his gratitude to his family and teammates. I was grateful.
He also praised God when he won the Offensive MVP award.
“Before I say anything, I must give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. I am so grateful that God has given me the opportunity to be a Buckeye. I was happy,” he said.
Sawyer thanked God for allowing him and his team to return to school and win a title.
“We just thank God for giving us the ability to go out and be here and go through the ups and downs and make it through. He was on our side and we knew it. We overcame adversity and this feels really good,” Sawyer said.
Defensive MVP Cody Simon also made it clear that his faith is integral to his game.
“The Lord has done something special for this team and I am so grateful,” Simon emphasized. “Everyone on this team agreed. I love all the players here. Give it your all this year.”
The Buckeyes weren't the only ones thanking God. Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard also said before the game that God had led everyone to this important game.
“I truly believe things happen for a reason, and it's not just us, it's Ohio State as well. “I think we're the two major teams that most publicly display their faith.” Leonard added, “Jesus has been watching over our shoulders all season, putting these two teams on a pedestal, and why.”
