Ohio woman’s viral videos about rug buried in her yard led to search for potential body

An Ohio woman shared a video on her TikTok account saying she feared a body was buried in her yard, leading to police searching her property.

Earlier this week, Katie Santry first shared a video of herself and her family digging up a buried rug in their front yard in Columbus, and later updated her followers on the situation, including that police were called to her home. I created a video to convey the message. .

The video has racked up millions of views, and in her comments, many people speculated why the rug would be buried in the garden.

Columbus police responded to the scene later in the week to investigate, but said no bodies were found. fox 59.

Suntory described the incident in a TikTok video as “the most absurd and insane experience of my life.”

The investigation, which included a K-9 unit and an excavation, concluded Friday afternoon, and police recovered a piece of carpet buried in the yard.

“All of these fragments have tested negative for human or animal remains and there are no plans for further testing at this time,” police said.

A police officer said that when building a house, it is common to bury things instead of moving them to save labor. Officers said K-9 units aren't always accurate, but when police are alerted to a scene, they have to dig to see if there's anything there.

It's also possible that someone had a minor episode, like a nosebleed, years ago and the dog picked up on it, the officer said.

In multiple videos, Santry detailed the initial call to police. Officers who visited her home said at the time that they had no plans to investigate further.

“The whole world was asking me to come to the police force,” Santry said. “When I called the police and said, 'Hey, would you like to come over to my house to look at the rug,' I felt insane.”

In a video posted Thursday, Santry said he received a call from a homicide detective who told him they were sending investigators with a cadaver dog. She said in a video later that day that two different cadaver dogs were sitting in the hole on two separate attempts.
