Oil Tanker Taken by US Near Venezuela, President Trump Confirms

US Seizes Oil Tanker off Venezuela Coast

President Donald Trump confirmed on Wednesday that the US had seized an oil tanker near Venezuela. The details about the tanker’s ownership and origin remain unclear, but Trump described it as “very large,” though he didn’t elaborate on the reasons for its capture. In recent months, the US military has increased its presence in the southern Caribbean, leading to speculation about a potential confrontation with Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

“As you may know, we just seized a tanker off the coast of Venezuela,” Trump said. He emphasized its size by adding, “Large tanker, very large, the largest one ever actually captured.”

He also mentioned potential future actions, stating that “other things are happening.” Recent reports indicate that President Maduro has only a short time left, which adds a different layer to the ongoing situation.

This seizure indicates a significant shift in US actions in the Caribbean, especially after Trump announced the closure of Venezuelan airspace on November 29. In late November, he reportedly offered Maduro a deal that would allow him safe passage for himself and his family in exchange for stepping down. Earlier, the US had placed a $50 million bounty on Maduro, marking the highest amount ever assigned to a sitting head of state.

The US government has accused Maduro of leading the Cartel de los Soles, which has been designated a foreign terrorist organization.

The White House has yet to provide further comment on these developments.

This situation is ongoing and will be updated as new information emerges.
