Home Invasion in Oklahoma City
An Oklahoma man with a significant criminal record was arrested after he reportedly broke into a family’s home and climbed into bed with their child.
On Saturday, March 14, police responded to a call from Josh Hodnik in Oklahoma City. His 11-year-old son had woken him up to report a strange man in his bed. “My son woke me up and said, ‘Hey, there’s a man in my bed,'” Hodnik recounted.
Initially, Hodnik thought his son might be having a bad dream or maybe imagining things. He was skeptical. “I was like, ‘What, what, what do you mean?'” he stated, unsure of what to believe.
However, upon checking the bedroom, he realized his son was telling the truth. “There was an adult male lying on the bed,” Hodnik said. The man had brought his own blanket and was wearing one sock.
Earlier that evening, Hodnik’s children had played outside, and he hadn’t locked the front door before going to bed. Reflecting on that, he wished he had. “I didn’t go check the front door… I wish I could, but I don’t have to. We shouldn’t live in a society where strangers walk in the door,” he expressed.
The individual, identified as 46-year-old Charles Bradford, has since been charged with first-degree burglary and five misdemeanor counts. Reports revealed his lengthy criminal history, including multiple arrests for assault and theft.
Notably, in 2002, Bradford was convicted of manslaughter after killing a fellow inmate. This background left Hodnik questioning how someone like Bradford was free on the streets. “This man shouldn’t have been on the street. He has committed about a dozen heinous crimes,” he said, clearly frustrated.
After his arrest, Bradford’s mental health became a topic of discussion. The District Attorney’s Office indicated that he had applied for mental health court for stabilization and treatment. However, with new charges against him, officials are reassessing his participation.
“He doesn’t need to be on the street,” Hodnik remarked, sharing his concerns about safety. “All I could do was not kill him” when he confronted the intruder.
Bradford is currently held in the Cleveland County Detention Center on $75,000 bail. The local District Attorney’s Office has not commented on the situation yet.
