Ole Miss defense steps up, contains Missouri's strong rushing game in 31-3 victory

Rebels’ Defense Shines in Victory Over Missouri

Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding faced some tough questions about his defense after allowing 52 points just a few weeks ago against Florida. It’s, well, it’s not easy hearing that sort of critique, especially for someone with a defensive background.

What a difference a few weeks can make, huh? Just three weeks later, Ole Miss completely dominated 13th-ranked Missouri, winning decisively 31-3.

Missouri came into the game boasting a strong rushing offense and a talented quarterback, Austin Simmons. But honestly, you wouldn’t have known that from this performance.

Golding and the Rebels’ defense deserve a lot of credit. They limited Missouri to a mere 39 rushing yards and kept Simmons on edge throughout the game. He did end up throwing for 340 yards, but let’s be real—he had to throw nearly 50 times to get there.

On the flip side, Ole Miss’s quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, wasn’t flawless, but he stepped up when it mattered most, tossing three touchdown passes and adding another rushing score.

The Rebels’ ground game was particularly impressive, racking up 257 yards against a usually solid Missouri run defense, largely thanks to Kewan Lacy and backup Makhi Frazier.

This loss certainly complicates things for Missouri, who were, at one point, eyeing a potential College Football Playoff spot. On the other hand, Ole Miss seems to be back on track, with their sights set firmly on their remaining goals.

Coming up, Ole Miss will take on a struggling Texas Longhorns team, which should be interesting given the context of their season. Their path to an SEC Championship is still challenging, especially with tough opponents like Georgia and Oklahoma looming in November.

As for Missouri, they’ll head to Fayetteville to face Arkansas, which, honestly, might be just what they need to regroup after this setback.
