Ilhan Omar’s Husband’s Business Linked to Tax Issues
Tim Minnett, the husband of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota known for advocating fair taxation, operated a company that reportedly borrowed money from the IRS. This business, Estee Litco, which engaged in advertising, design, and public relations, dissolved in June 2022.
Recent investigations revealed that documents filed by the IRS after the company’s dissolution in 2023 indicated approximately $206,000 owed in unpaid income, Social Security, and Medicare taxes.
In February, Omar introduced amendments aimed at ensuring businesses fulfill their tax obligations, expressing her opposition to Republican budget plans that she claimed could lead to increased financial burdens for workers. She criticized such moves as attempts to benefit the wealthy at the expense of ordinary citizens.
Interestingly, despite the claims of tax liabilities, a spokesperson for Estee Litco asserted that the company had no outstanding debts from the Covid era and that, as of September 2025, the IRS owed them around $3,000.
Omar’s wealth has been reported at around $30 million, yet her financial disclosures described her stake in Estee Litco as being worth less than $1,000. Notably, local records in Sonoma County showed no indication of an IRS lien against the company.
Requests for comment from Omar’s representatives went unanswered, leaving some questions regarding the matter unresolved.
