One student killed and another injured after a stabbing in Arizona high school classroom shortly after school began.

A student was stabbed, and his attacker was hospitalized following an argument between two teenagers at Maryvale High School in Arizona, just two weeks into the school year.

Phoenix police responded around 11 AM after a school safety officer reported a stabbing. They arrived to find students with multiple stab wounds, though their injuries were not life-threatening.

As the situation unfolded, the school went into lockdown, leaving students frightened and anxious, many reaching out to their parents for reassurance.

One seriously injured student was taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately died. The other teen involved in the incident was arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Authorities did not provide details on how the remaining students sustained injuries, and an investigation is currently ongoing.

While police dealt with the chaotic scene, school officials attempted to calm concerned parents, advising them not to approach the school. When parents did arrive, they waited anxiously to cross police lines to pick up their children.

One parent shared, “He texted me and said, ‘Mama, something happened at school. We’re in lockdown.’ I said, ‘I’m coming.'” It’s unsettling, perhaps to receive such messages from your child in situations like this.

As a response to this tragic event, the school plans to provide counselors for students and staff and will operate under a modified schedule the following day.

Officials expressed their sorrow, labeling the loss of a student due to a stabbing a “terrible tragedy,” emphasizing the importance of school safety and praising the immediate response from safety officers on campus.

For reference, Maryvale High School kicked off its academic year on August 4th.
