Parents are now choosing “cool”-sounding names for their TikTok and Instagram handles, according to a professional baby namer.

“Communication and technology are so pervasive now that they help individualize children and give them their own identity,” says Steph Coffield, 40. explained to SWNS.

“People want their kids to have that unique identity. They want their kids to have cool name handles for Instagram and TikTok in the future,” Coffield said. he added. Cofield charges up to $500 to help expectant parents choose the perfect name for their child.

The Minneapolis stay-at-home mom of three says unusual baby names are becoming more popular. This is great, he says, because John and Mary are “over it.”

Coffield said examples of unique names that double as interesting social media handles include “Ferris,” “Keaton” and “Townsend” for boys.

For girls, Mr. Coffield suggests Bardena, Doretta, and Velma.

Another trend for 2024 is names ending in “ie.”

“I think we’re going to see a lot more Sony.” and more lenny — Lenny and Lenny — because people love the ‘ie’ ending, both boys and girls,” Coffield reasoned.

Using a family name as a first name or giving a girl a masculine name is also popular.

“For boys, a lot of people choose valet,” Coffield explained. “For girls, we’re seeing more masculine names, not just Logan and James, but Denver and Murphy.”

Coffield says she hasn’t seen many feminine names for boys.

“Oftentimes you’ll want to name your boy after something traditional, perhaps a family name or third generation,” Coffield says. “Traditionally, we haven’t put a lot of emphasis on girls in our society, so they end up having access to all the possibilities. So for girls, anything is a choice. You can.”

Coffield is an advocate of gender-neutral names and even published a book in 2022 titled “Names Have No Gender.”

Her services range from $25 for five name suggestions to $500 for an “interactive experience” that includes unlimited name suggestions, three video calls, and a personalized certificate.

She gained attention for talking about birth empowerment on TikTok. Her “Named Steph” page It currently boasts over 267,700 followers.

“We had so many requests that we had to charge a fee,” she recalled.

However, her love for unusual names like Rogue, Rebel, and Story has been met with resistance as social media users wonder how these unique names age.

“People say, ‘So what happens when you grow up?’ And to that point, look at Dolly Parton. Her name is Dolly and she’s an icon. I owned it,” Coffield declared.

“I don’t care if you’re 4 or 95,” she continued. “I think the name works. Just as names don’t have gender, names don’t have age.”
