HOUSTON, Texas
A conservative group of parents in Harris County has reported that a left-leaning organization has been sharing content on social media aimed at high school students to organize a chapter of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) within their Spring Branch school district. It seems that this group, known as Be The Change SBISD, has reached out to over 700 members, urging them to take action against teachers and sponsors of students.
On social media, members of the “TPUSA Club America” high school chapter claimed they were “Doxxed” by adults who posted sensitive information to obstruct their ability to meet as a club. The Moms for Liberty group has pinpointed the left-leaning group as a source of this contention within the Spring Branch Independent School District.
There are allegations that Be The Change infiltrated private chat groups and disseminated content within them, even asserting that a recent unfortunate event involving Charlie Kirk was due to conflicts among “far-right entities” led by Nick Fuentes.
One comment read, “Given the recent murder of notable figures by individuals driven by personal rivalries, it’s simply reckless for students to introduce such heated rivalries to school environments, especially considering the current surge in school shootings across the US.” There’s a lot of concern about the implications of such disputes.
This group seems intent on silencing students, which might conflict with their rights to free speech and assembly. It’s also worth noting that they labeled one of the TPUSA club’s sponsors as a “censor advocate.”
The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution declares:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The group has cited various quotes from Charlie Kirk as examples of speech they believe should be prohibited on the Stafford High School campus. They have encouraged fellow members to draft personal letters to two particular teachers, suggesting how they might communicate their opinions, promising to share sample responses.
Since Kirk’s murder on September 10th, the membership of the TPUSA chapter has seen a significant increase on both college and high school campuses across the country. For example, Jack Harrell, the president of the chapter at the University of Texas, San Antonio, noted that their membership doubled in just five days.
