Concerns Rise Over LGBT Curriculum in Chicago Public Schools

The leader of a parent advocacy group is raising alarms about the introduction of “woke” LGBT literature in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), which stands among the largest public school systems in the U.S.

A recent report from “Protecting Education” claims that Chicago Public Schools has distributed “Pride Guidance” to educators. This guidance reportedly encourages teachers to host “Pride Week,” display “Pride flags,” and provide materials that promote the LGBT agenda.

Moreover, the document suggests that there’s an expectation for all districts to establish a Gender and Sexuality Alliance club, which has reportedly gained traction over recent years.

In an exclusive conversation with Fox News Digital, the organization Defending Education expressed concerns about the content being provided to students.

“It’s incredibly alarming that CPS insists on diverting classroom resources and time from essential subjects,” stated Nicole Neily, founder and president of Defending Education. “Parents expect their children to acquire fundamental skills such as reading, writing, and math to enhance their future opportunities. Yet, CPS seems to be failing in this regard, as indicated by the district’s test scores.”

According to a document obtained by Defending Education, teachers were reminded that state regulations do not allow them to opt out of curricula that include “LGBTQ+ inclusive content” and must also cover “LGBTQ+ history.”

One of the pamphlets shared by Defending Education notes, “Pride extends far beyond just a month of celebration; it’s a struggle for equality and collaboration among marginalized communities.”

A FAQ within the documents poses the question, “Can I display Pride flags and other LGBTQ+ affirming materials in my classroom?” to which the response is an enthusiastic, “Yes! We encourage you to do so!”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Chicago Public Schools for comment on this issue.

Recently, the system was embroiled in controversy after a video circulated showing an elementary school teacher mimicking a gun to her neck during a protest. Many expressed outrage, calling for the teacher’s termination, yet the district has not publicly addressed the incident or clarified her employment status.
