California Parents Convicted in Gruesome Murders

A mother and father from California have been found guilty of murdering their 13-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son, a case that has shocked the community. The convictions were announced on Tuesday by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Natalie Sumiko Broswell, 48, and Maurice Jewell Taylor Sr., 39, were charged with stabbing and decapitating their children in their Lancaster home on November 29, 2020.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hockman described the incident as a “heinous act of brutality,” noting that it shattered the lives of an entire family and left the surviving siblings in a state of unimaginable horror.

Five days after the murders, firefighters discovered the bodies while responding to a report of a possible gas leak. At the time, Broswell and Taylor’s two other sons, aged 8 and 9, were also in the home.

Prosecutors revealed that after the murders, the couple forced their young boys to view the decapitated bodies of their siblings and then kept them confined in a bedroom without food for several days.

Broswell and Taylor were found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, as well as two counts of child abuse. They are now facing life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole, with an additional sentence of six years and four months. Sentencing is scheduled for January 13.

While updates on the two surviving brothers have not been provided, Hockman emphasized that the jury’s decision brings a sense of justice. He stated that the verdict demonstrates a commitment to holding accountable those who commit such horrific acts.
