Parents of Kansas City Chiefs fan found dead say drugs proves ‘there’s more to the story’

Parents of one of three Kansas City Chiefs fans found dead in a scientist’s friend’s backyard say toxicology report suggests they ingested a deadly drug mixture “It just proves that there is more to come.”

David Harrington’s parents said Friday that their 37-year-old son and friends Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, had three times the lethal amount of fentanyl, THC and cocaine in their systems. Her husband, John, also said the toxicology report did not fully explain how their son and his friend were found frozen to death just days after visiting his friend Jordan Willis.

“Someone gave them something that would kill them,” he claims, admitting there’s no way to know for sure, but says the dead men were at the watch party “taking them there.” He said he believed there was a high possibility that he had gone there.

Willis’ attorney, John Picerno, reiterated that his client “did nothing wrong” and that he had no idea his friend was dead in his backyard.

The HIV scientist is believed to have been in a rehabilitation facility for an unknown addiction in the days following his death.

Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Alaina Gonzalez confirmed to People on Monday that “this incident remains an active death investigation.”

“KCPD detectives and the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office have both been in contact with the deceased man’s family and will continue to do so as the investigation progresses.”
