For Todd and Krista Kolstad, the nightmare began on Aug. 23, when their parents received a phone call saying their 14-year-old daughter, Jennifer, had expressed suicidal thoughts while in school.
Jennifer was taken to hospital, claiming she had been poisoned by the cleaning fluid, but showed no signs of illness. However, the hospital consistently stated that Jennifer identified as male and wanted to be called Leo.
The parents immediately objected, telling hospital staff that it was against their values, morals, and religious beliefs. They were told to call a lawyer if they had a problem because they were going to do whatever the child told them to do.
The hospital then recommended that she be transferred to an out-of-state hospital, where parental consent was not required for gender-affirming medical procedures.
“The first day we arrived at the hospital, the nurses were immediately talking about upper surgery in front of my daughter. They immediately started calling her boy,” Todd tells Glenn Beck.
When the parents said no, Montana Children and Family Services showed up at their home and gave them paperwork to take custody of Jennifer.
Todd and Krista are now accusing the state of medically abducting their daughter because they refused to support her transgender identity. But the state’s Republican governor insisted the decision had nothing to do with the transgender debate.
“They told me to go to marriage counseling to accept my daughter’s transgender status,” Krista tells Glenn.
“Wow,” Glenn said, completely shocked.
Her parents are still fighting to get their daughter back.
“Maybe we’ll talk again,” Glenn tells them.
“We are praying for the right thing to happen for you, especially your daughter.”
