Party City Makes a Comeback
After being a staple in the party supply industry for four decades, Party City filed for bankruptcy just days before Christmas in 2024. Now, the brand is planning to revive itself, starting with a new partnership with Staples. This was announced on Tuesday.
The collaboration aims to establish “mini” Party City Shops inside over 100 Staples locations across California, where customers will find everything they need—from printer ink to birthday balloons—all in one spot.
This pop-up, arriving just in time for graduation season, will offer popular items like helium balloons, decorations, and party favors. Additionally, it will utilize Staples’ existing printing services for custom banners, invitations, and yard signs.
This partnership marks a pivotal moment for Party City, focusing on collaborations to rebuild after experiencing severe financial difficulties. “By bringing Party City to Staples, we are expanding what customers can accomplish in one place,” expressed Marshall Warkentin, president of Staples US Retail. He emphasized the convenience of combining party supplies with same-day printing services.
Party City’s new leadership echoed this vision, highlighting the plan to expand the brand’s reach through Staples’ extensive network, both nationally and locally.
This alliance coincides with a strong demand for celebration-related spending, especially as nearly 4 million high school seniors are set to graduate in 2026, contributing to the billions already spent annually on parties and events.
Customers can expect special offers for the launch, including promotions like buy-two-get-one on balloons and discounts on various party supplies, with balloon bouquets starting under $20.
The companies indicated that this partnership is in its early stages, with intentions to grow to additional locations throughout 2026.
For Party City, this relationship represents a fresh start, potentially reviving the brand and reconnecting it with millions of shoppers in California and beyond.
