Travelers reacted strongly at the airport after discovering their flight had been canceled.
Elianne Freun, 27, found herself among the passengers affected when the Nordic Atlantic Airlines flight from Paris to New York was called off on July 3rd.
While she was at the check-in counter trying to reschedule her flight, Elianne observed another passenger, an airline staff member, lose her temper.
According to Elianne, this passenger was frustrated that the airline wasn’t providing hotel accommodations for her family following the cancellation.
A video captured an unknown woman shouting at an employee, using derogatory language before security had to escort her away.
Elianne, a model from Paris, commented,
“I get why she was upset since the airline was really not helpful.
“She tried to cancel her flight late at night and needed a place for her and her two kids.
“On top of that, she mentioned her diabetes and the need for her medication.
“You could say she was in a panic, but the language she used was a bit too harsh.
“Especially since the staff weren’t the ones to blame.”
Passengers on the Paris to New York flight were notified late at night about the cancellation due to technical issues.
Once the email arrived, many rushed to the desks to rebook or ask about accommodations.
Elianne mentioned that they were told they would need to handle cancellations on their own and seek out new flights and places to stay.
“Everyone was already at the airport,” she explained.
“We were looking for a way to rebook our flights and somewhere to sleep for the night.
“They insisted we had to manage the cancellations ourselves and rebook with another airline, but the prices were outrageous.
“Afterward, those who couldn’t afford another flight scrambled to find a hotel.”
“But doing that in the middle of the night? Not an easy task.
“Some ended up sleeping at the airport with their kids, including that woman.”
Eventually, Elianne managed to rebook a flight with a different airline, paying nearly double the original ticket price.
“I was able to find another flight, but it was really last minute and cost me £952 ($1,285).
“I haven’t received any refund for my original booking yet, though I’ve been emailing them.”
“Honestly, I’m quite disappointed with how everything was handled.”
Strikes by French air traffic controllers led to a wave of cancellations and delays affecting numerous flights across France and Europe on July 3 and 4.
Efforts to reach Nordic Atlantic Airlines for a response were unsuccessful.
