As the service drew to a close, Pastor Stewart noticed that a church member named Lois Adams was coughing and thought she might be sick.
“In the middle of a message, just as I was getting ready to close, I heard a cough. I know it’s allergy season and colds are going around, but I might be right. And we were going to lay hands on her right now and heal her in the name of Jesus,” Pastor Stewart explained. WTVY report.
However, the church members briefly panicked as other worshipers began to fear for the elderly woman’s life.
“I was praising the Lord like everyone else, but my mouth was dry so I put a piece of mint in my mouth and I choked on it,” Adams recalled.
The woman said that once she started choking, she quickly realized someone was lifting her off the floor.
“I started coughing and some of it went down my throat and I couldn’t breathe, and the next thing I knew, someone was throwing me into the air,” she recalled.
It was Reverend Stewart who rushed in to perform the Heimlich Maneuver, lifting her into the air.
“I picked her up off the ground, and she treats us like her own children, so I said, no, devil, you can’t be my mommy,” Stewart said of the incident. .
“We jumped in and Pastor Derrick came in. He’s the backup, so he’s like, ‘Here we go.'” “He’s also a first responder and a great pastor of this church. “We all joked that it would make her more alert and able to talk,” Pastor Stewart added.
The pastor was adamant that once the woman’s life was saved, it was time to return to church services.
“We’ve done our job. Now it’s time to get back to business,” he declared. “It could have been someone else in that position and it had nothing to do with me, but I’m honored and humbled by that.” [God] He used me in this position so I could spread his gospel and help Miss Lois,” Pastor Stewart said.
Both Chaplain and Adams emphasized the importance of knowing how to perform life-saving techniques.
