Pat McAfee Attends Patriot Games with President Trump
ESPN’s Pat McAfee joined President Donald Trump at the Patriot Games in Ohio, but it’s not related to the 1992 action film of the same name.
McAfee, a former NFL punter, participated in a high school sports tournament at the SPIRE Academy in Geneva alongside Trump. The tournament rewarded scholarships to one young woman and one young man. He even welcomed the president at the Cleveland airport.
A video from a White House account captured the moment Trump got off Air Force One and shared a handshake with McAfee, who sported a backward hat.
After taking some photos together, the pair headed towards Marine One.
Another clip from the same account showed McAfee sitting next to Trump during the event.
According to Front Office Sports, McAfee received an invitation to the Patriot Games as Trump’s guest.
This week, ESPN is set to broadcast the Patriots game on its app and feature a one-hour special on its linear network on Thursday.
During his show on Tuesday, McAfee expressed interest in promoting the event. “We really don’t know all the details, but it’s something we want to help grow,” he mentioned, adding, “We’d love to support this initiative.”
The event, according to its website, “will showcase a variety of athletic challenges aimed at testing strength, endurance, agility, teamwork, and perseverance,” featuring competitions like the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, military-style boot camps, obstacle courses, kickball, dodgeball, tug-of-war, and victory hoops.
Later, McAfee shared on social media that he felt “proud” to support the event. He reflected, “It was a blast to celebrate America’s high school students alongside Disney, ABC, ESPN, and leading figures. I’m glad we’re all backing such an important effort to encourage future generations to stay active,” along with a couple of selfies, one featuring Trump.
“Cheers to all the fantastic contestants and looking forward to next year’s Patriot Games.”
McAfee has had multiple encounters with Trump, including an interview on ESPN last Veterans Day and a visit during the college football national championship game.
