Treasury Secretary Critiques California Governor
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed sharp criticism of California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, labeling him “narcissistic” and “economically ignorant.” This remark came after Newsom targeted President Donald Trump during his appearance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
While at the WEF, Newsom accused global leaders of colluding with Trump, suggesting they should have come prepared to kneel before him. Bessent’s response was quick and pointed when addressing reporters the following day.
@SecScottBessent Davos: “I think it’s very, very ironic that Newsom (who was impressed after watching Patrick Bateman meet Sparkle Beach Ben) may be the only Californian who knows as little about economics as Kamala Harris. He’s here this week with his billionaire sugar daddy, Alex Soros.”
Bessent continued, “Governor Newsom, who seems rather enamored with Patrick Bateman and Ken Sparkle Beach, might be the only Californian who lacks economic knowledge comparable to Kamala Harris. It’s amusing that he’s mingling at Davos while people were being arrested for attending church back home during lockdowns.”
In his statements, Newsom also took aim at Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Colina Machado. Notably, Machado dedicated her award to Trump, recognizing his ongoing support for those opposing Venezuela’s dictator, Nicolas Maduro.
Alex Soros, who was elected president of the Open Society Foundations in December 2022, has been described by his father, George Soros, as having “earned” the role. Alex has characterized himself as more politically active than his father.
Speaking at the WEF, references to acquiring Greenland from Denmark resurfaced. However, the president has clearly stated that military force would not be utilized for such an occupation.
