Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, was arrested on Tuesday due to a probation violation, as confirmed by various sources.
The 55-year-old was taken into custody at the Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas, around 11:24 a.m. local time, according to jail logs.
Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman mentioned that Mahomes Sr. had been jailed earlier on January 1st after his ankle monitor detected a high level of alcohol.
Documents obtained indicate that he underwent urine tests on January 5 and 9, which reportedly returned negative results.
A motion to halt his probation has been filed, and he will have the opportunity to contest this motion.
Just two years prior, he had faced drunk driving charges, with a blood alcohol level recorded at 0.23 during the incident.
Mahomes Sr. was sentenced to five years of probation in September 2024, and a further violation could lead to a decade behind bars.
He had a history of arrests, including a 2018 incident where he served 40 days in county jail over weekends.
Interestingly, his previous arrest in 2024 occurred just before his son was set to play in the Super Bowl. When asked about the situation, Mahomes II described it as a family matter, choosing to keep certain details private.
In a candid moment during a documentary series about his life, Mahomes II reflected, saying that his father’s injuries seemed to act as a wake-up call for him to reevaluate his lifestyle.
Mahomes Sr. himself called the experience profoundly embarrassing, expressing regret for diverting his son’s focus, but Mahomes II hasn’t commented further on the recent arrest.
