The fourth down conversion was a failure, so we'll have to wait for the next Chiefs drive to understand his status. At the time of the injury, Mahomes was completing 19 of 38 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Carson Wentz was the Chiefs' backup quarterback and entered the game in his place.
Mahomes was listed as I doubt whether I will return it.But he didn't have to, as the Chiefs beat Cleveland 21-7. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes' ankle was not broken and that it is a day-to-day injury.

Wentz's only appearance for the Chiefs so far this season was on mop-up duty in Kansas City's win over the San Francisco 49ers. He replaced Mahomes and completed Kansas City's first two passes for a total of 20 yards.
Sunday night update: Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid addressed the injury after the game. Mahomes said it's “uncertain” whether he'll be available for Saturday's game between the Chiefs and the Houston Texans, but he expects his injury to be better on Monday.
